The Ova's technology is an electrotherapy known as TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), which tackles pain in two ways. Firstly, it encourages the release of endorphins, the body's own pain-relieving chemicals. Secondly, it targets the pain gate, which effectively stops the pain signals from reaching the brain. This clinically-researched, medically recommended treatment has no known side-effects and is used by doctors and physiotherapists worldwide.
TENS works by sending harmless electrical pulses from a small unit to electrode pads which are placed on the skin. The pads for Ova are extra large, to target the specific bands of nerves which are linked to the uterus. They are connected to wires which attach to the unit with flat poppers, to minimise unnecessary bulking. The pads themselves are just 1mm thick, rendering them invisible under your clothing.
The Ova's most distinctive feature is its size. It has been designed to be especially discreet, so that nobody need know when you are using it. The unit itself is just 55mm across at its widest point, and can be clipped to a belt or waistband. With only three buttons - on/up, down/off and mode - it is easy to use, and requires minimum effort to assemble. Despite its diminutive size and simple operation, it is just as powerful as standard TENS machines.
The Ova's electrodes can be applied in advance, without attaching them to the unit. Keeping them in place prior to your period means that it is even easier to set up the Ova and start to experience pain relief as soon as you require it. However, if you wish to just keep it in your bag in preparation, the Ova and its accessories fit neatly into a small, soft carrying case, which can easily slip into your bag.
