Why use nipple shields?
While breast feeding, mothers frequently suffer discomfort from sore or cracked nipples which can make feeding time an unpleasant experience.
This usually occurs in the early weeks by incorrectly positioning the baby on the breast allowing him to 'chew' the nipple.
It is a common experience and very often will right itself naturally as the nipple toughens and baby learns to grasp more of the Areola when he first feeds.
However during this time the mother may be discouraged and decide that breast feeding is not for her.
