Ameda breastpump milk collection sets
Overview
During the course of 2008-2009, Ameda have introduced two new polypropylene breastmilk collection sets to the United Kingdom. The clear polycarbonate set is being phased out.
Only the funnels and bottles have changed, all other collection set components have remained the same, and indeed are fully interchangeable.
The following paragraphs attempt to show the differences between the sets.
Discontinued in 2009:
Ameda Hygienikit 17111UK
For many years, the 17111UK Ameda Hygienikit was standard issue with the Ameda Lactaline Dual Electric Breast Pump, Ameda Elite Breast Pump and Ameda Manual Breast Pump.
This set was also in widespread use in the clinical environment.
The 17111UK Hygienikit funnel and bottle were constructed from clear polycarbonate.
Whilst easy to clean, this type of plastic is somewhat brittle. If assembled wet, it is quite easy to overtighten the bottle and crack the screw thread.
Although we can no longer obtain sealed kits, we continue to hold stocks of all components, and will do so until all available supply is exhausted.
Introduced in 2008:
Ameda Eco Breast Milk Collection Set
Designed primarily for clinical use, the Ameda Eco set differs from the Hygienikit in four ways.
- Funnel and bottle are constructed from opaque polypropylene.

- Diaphragm chamber is positioned closer to the nipple tunnel and therefore incorporates a splashguard to divert milk away from the diaphragm.
- Bottle is supplied with a polypropylene one-piece cap.
- Funnel is incompatible with Ameda's Manual Pump Handle Converter.
The Eco set funnel, bottle and cap are designed to withstand the high temperatures generated by hospital autoclave machines. Polypropylene components are less likely to crack or shatter.
The polypropylene funnel and bottle are 100% BPA-free. BPA is not present in any Ameda caps, valves, diaphragms, tubing or bottle caps.
We supplied twin sets of this kit with our Ameda Lactaline Dual Electric breast pumps from April to August 2009.
Flexishields are no longer included with Ameda Eco sets, but will fit the standard funnel. Flexishields may be purchased here.
Supplied sterile for immediate single patient use.
Introduced in 2009:
Ameda Hygienikit 17111UKP
A BPA-free polypropylene version of the original 17111UK Hygienikit Breast Milk Collection Set. This may now be regarded as Ameda's 'standard issue' collection set.
UK versions of Ameda's breast pumps are shipped with this collection set excluding the larger funnels. The 17111UKP is backwards compatible with all Ameda breast pumps and Hollister SMB.
When purchased as a stand-alone item, this entirely new milk collection set comes with a standard (25mm) breast flange, extra large (30.5mm) breastflange and reducing insert to create a large (28.5mm) flange.
Each new Hygienikit is supplied sterile and ready for immediate use. The sealed package includes the following items (all of which are available to buy separately):
- Connector/Dual Adapter
- Breastshield (25mm)
- Breastshield (30.5mm)
- Breastshield insert (28.5mm)
- Adapter cap
- Silicone diaphragm
- Tubing
- Valve
- 4 oz polypropylene bottle with cap
Flexishields are no longer included with Ameda Hygienikits, but will fit the 25mm funnel. Flexishields may be purchased here.
